Prudential Commitee
We bring different perspectives to the table, but we are united in our passion for the preservation of this priceless resource and supporting recreation for all.
Sean Lydon
Prudential Committee - Chairman
Sean and Louise Lydon live on Lanesboro Road, just a stone’s throw from where his family has had a home by the lake for 60 years. Sean took swimming and lifesaving lessons on Horn’s Beach . . so that he could learn to waterski. You will still see him out there learning on warm evenings. Louise loves the outdoor activities offered by the lake, the trail, and the mountains too. As a member of the Prudential Committee Sean helped restructure our herbicide contract to focus on the weed variety (tapegrass) that has become dominant in the lake. He also organized an application for a state grant to permit dredging of the shallow areas of the lake where tapegrass is difficult to prevent or control. He donates his time and energy in the hope that the next generation of Hoosac hooligans will get to enjoy the lake as he did.
Liseann Karandisecky
Prudential Committee - Vice Chairman
and Dam Operator
Liseann is dedicated to continuing the work of those who have invested so much in making this lake what it is today. Having seen its evolution firsthand over the decades, she is committed to its ongoing preservation and improvement.
Liseann has served on the Prudential Committee since June 2021. During her tenure, she played a key role in expanding our support team by bringing on our weed-management partner, Pond and Lake Connection, and biologist Hillary Kenyon Garovoy. Together, they conducted a comprehensive study of the lake to update the 1982 Notice of Intent (NOI), ensuring it reflects current ecological conditions. Liseann also organized multiple events for the manual removal of invasive water chestnuts and continues to support the development of an evolving lake management plan.
Beyond her work with the lake, Liseann is deeply involved in town service. She currently serves on the Open Space and Recreation Committee, the Historical Commission, and the Events Committee. She helped develop a new Cheshire Hazard Mitigation and Climate Adaptation Plan and is currently pursuing a conservation certification through the MACC. A passionate gardener and outdoor enthusiast, she is also active with the Cheshire Garden Club and the Native Plant Trust.
Liseann’s family has roots in Cheshire dating back to the late 1700s. She grew up spending summers on the lake, learning to fish and swim, and continues that tradition today. As the current dam operator, she can often be found walking the rail trail and taking photos. She remains closely connected to the water and enjoys fishing with her husband, John, or surveying the lake by kayak, paddleboard, or snowshoes.
Liseann also spends time in Alaska with her daughter, Jess, and son-in-law, Cody. Her experiences there, alongside her role as a grandmother, have deepened her appreciation for conservation and reinforced the importance of protecting natural spaces for future generations.
Edward Bassi
Prudential Committee Member
Ed Bassi has served two terms on the Prudential Committee for the benefit of the town and the health of the lake and its many recreational and residential constituents. He brings his expertise as a hospitality industry executive and his heart for the community as a local business owner who hosted many of the community’s celebrations for more than a decade. He and his wife Bobbie, a Cheshire native, live on Shadowland Cove on the land purchased by his grandparents. He is the third generation to live there and his daughter and granddaughter are respectively, the fourth and fifth generation to enjoy the many joys of living with a lake. As a historical note, his grandmother carried the lumber little by little on the bus from North Adams and over the frozen lake to build the first camp in the spring.
Ed’s service has been characterized by his dedication to facts and best practices, his respectful communication style and his willingness to explore. He brings a strong belief that the lake should be open and available to all who wish to participate in and preserve the beauty and ecological balance of this precious resource. He carefully researches issues and provides a much needed perspective on best practices in weed management, water level and development.
